There are many things to see either in Kathmandu, around kathmandu
or outside of Kathmandu.
Some of the best places for
Sightseeing in Kathmandu are:
Pashupatinath Temple:
This is the holiest temple for Hindu people. This is the
temple dedicated to Lord Pashupatinath. Many people from
different part of Asia visit this Temple. It is crowded
in the festivals like Shivaratri, Teej, Balachaturdasi.
Shiva is the national God of Nepal and Pashupatinath is
the holiest temple for Nepalese people.
Boudhanath:
This is the sacred place for Buddhist people. Possibly the
world's largest stupa and have Tibetan Buddhist Culture
in Nepal. The stupa is located on the ancient trade route
to Tibet, and Tibetan merchants rested and offered prayers
here for many centuries.
Swayambhunath:
This is also the Buddhist stupa. It is famous as monkey
temple. It is located on the hill. Swayambhunath is one
of the most recognizable symbols in Nepal and the painted
eyes of Buddha watch all that ascend the worn stone steps.
It is a World Heritage Site.
Kathmandu Durbar
Square:
This is the old palace. Although king no longer live in
this palace but coronation ceremony is done here. Actually
Durbar Square is the "Heart "historic seat of
Royalty. It includes old temples and palaces.
Patan Durbar
Square:
The ancient city of Patan, lying 5km southeast of Kathmandu,
is known as the city of fine arts. The city is bursting
with Hindu temples and Buddhist monuments. Patan Durbar
square is listed as world heritage site. The Patan Durbar
Square consists of three main chowks or courtyards: the
central Mul Chok, Sundari Chowk and Keshar Narayan Chowk
Outside of the Kathmandu,
people can go following places for sightseeing.
Dhulikhel:
A typical village of Dhulikhel is situated 30 Kms east of
Kathmandu City on the side of Arniko Highway to the Tibetan
border. From here one can own a complete panoramic view
of the snowy flanks ranging from east to west.
Panauti:
Panauti is said as the best place to see Nepalese woodcarving
particularly temple struts.
Panauti forms the shape of a triangle with a serpent (Naga)
idol standing at each of its three corners to protect from
floods. It possesses a number of interesting temples, one
of which perhaps to be the oldest in Nepal.
Palanchowk Bhagwati:
It is 40 km north-east of the Kathmandu city. Palanchowk
Bhagwati is situated over the hill overlooking the valley
of Panchkhal. It is very famous temple and dedicated to
Goddesses Bhagawati.
Namo Bauddha
It can be reached through two routes, thus forming an interesting
hilly circuit for trekkers and adventurers. Most popular
route is through Dhulikhel from where it is about 12 Kms.
It is an ideal place for in meditation.
Kakani:
Kakani is located 29 km northwest of Kathmandu at an altitude
of 1982 m above sea level and is famous for the magnificent
view over Kathmandu Valley and the northwestern Himalayas
ranges against the vastness of the sky. A majestic view
of the sunset can also be seen from this place.
NAGARKOT:
Nagarkot is a popular tourist resort of Nepal situated 32 km east of Kathmandu at an altitude of 2175m above sea level. After an hour long exciting and winding drive you will be above to feel the cool breeze of air blowing endlessly into your face, and see the widest range of Himalayas including Mount Everest with bare eyes. It is also one of the best spots to visit for unmatched sunrise and sunset views.
DAMAN:
For those seeking the ultimate pan-Himalayan view, Daman is the place to go. Located 80km southwest of the Kathmandu Valley, Daman (2400m) offers the only unimpeded view of the entire Himalayan range. Daman is located on the Tribhuvan Highway between Kathmandu and the town of Birgunj. There is a view tower fitted with long range telescope. Daman can be reached in four hours from Kathmandu.
