This is one of the most popular treks in Nepal due to its sensational views and accessibility. Geographically Dhaulagiri region is a land of dramatic contrast. From the near tropical Pokhara valley, steep slopes climb to snowcapped heights of over 8100 meters at the northern border with Tibet.
Mountainsides of rhododendron blaze with color in the spring, and other flowers are abundant on the trail. Even on High Mountain passes above the tree line; tiny alpine flowers can be fund dotting the wind swept ground.
For the highlight of this trek, take a sunrise stroll up to Poon Hill from Ghorepani for enticing panoramic views of the Annapurna range (from Dhauligiri to Ganesh Himal), including the distinguished Mt. Machhapuchhre (Fish Tail).
Dhaulagiri (White Mountain), separated from the Annapurna region by Kali Gandaki Gorge (deepest in the world) includes some fifteen peaks above 7000mt. A few mountains which translate 'White Mountain', this is the biggest one in the world.
