Langtang
area is toward the north of kathmandu valley. The scenery
here is spectacular, and the trek more adventurous. To the
west of langtang is Ganesh Himal with a range of 6.000 to
7,000 meters. The main ethnic groups living here are sherpas
and Tamangs. The forests in the region have temperate and
sub-alpine vegetation. Wildlife includes migratory birds,
deer, monkeys, tahr and pika. The best time for trekking
in the langtang area is spring and autumn. Most of trekking
routes in Helambu and Langtang are well served with teahouses
making independent trekking quite possible.
The Langtang valley is aptly called " the valley of
glaciers". Here the mountain scapes are spectacular.
Langtang Region is the third most popular trekking region
in Nepal. Langtang, Gosainkunda and Helambu, the three major
areas are situated in the north of Kathmandu offers a multitude
of trekking destinations. The valley offers pine forest,
slow moving rivers and swift mountain streams, rugged rock
and snow–capped peaks, grassy downs and meadows strewn
with daisies. This region is famous not only for its proximity
to the world's highest mountain but also for its Sherpa
villages and monasteries with their culture virtually unchanged
through the centuries. This fascinating land surrounded
by high mountains is a real paradise for mountaineers and
trekkers.
